Safe keeping for Downloaded Purchased Software

Okay you just spent nearly $400 on Microsoft’s office professional 2007.  And you purchased the download option because who wants to wait? You have broadband access for a reason and downloading software is one of the benefits. You install the software and it’s really great, but wait, before you go any further it is time to do a very important task.

Burn the downloaded program installation files onto a CD or DVD for safekeeping.
  1. Don’t put it off to tomorrow, chances are you’ll never go back to it.
  2. Don’t believe for a second that you are immune to computer failure.

Now that you have a burned copy of that $400 investment, where are you going to put the disc?
I highly recommend reaching for your standard manila envelope, put all of the software that came with your machine plus any of the software that you added to the machine in that envelope and take the envelope to the hidden side of your desktops tower.  It’ll be there when you need it, and you will need it!  If it’s a laptop,  do the same thing but instead put the folder in your filing cabinet under Laptop Computer.

Trust me, you’ll thank me for this later!  Happy computing, and get Tech Effective.

Remember it’s not a question having to reinstall the software if your computer fails.  It is a matter of having to reinstall the software when the computer fails.
